Dans la nuit du 15 au 16 avril, un homme a été pris en charge entre la vie et la mort derrière le Carrefour Contact situé face à la mairie 

Les agresseurs étaient trois, armés de batte de baseball et d’une hache. Sur place, la stupeur domine. « C’était vraiment un mec bien, je l’ai vu grandir dans le quartier », témoigne anonymement un Grand-Synthois, évoquant une agression gratuite. Sur ses réseaux sociaux, le boxeur grand-synthois Raphaël Tronché a réagi, publiant un message demandant des informations sur le ou les agresseurs. « Je viens d’apprendre qu’il y a, à Grande-Synthe, des agressions à répétition. Une des personnes agressées serait morte aujourd’hui des suites de ses blessures », écrit-il

Martial Beyaert a pris la parole, ce soir, sur les réseaux sociaux. Il a réagi à la suite de la terrible agression : un jeune animateur de la commune âgé d’une trentaine d’années et prénommé Philippe, a été roué de coups par plusieurs individus. Pris en charge par les secours et il se trouvait entre la vie et la mort ce matin. D’après les dernières informations dont nous disposons, la victime serait décédée ce soir. Préoccupé par la tournure des événements, le maire de Grande-Synthe, Martial Beyaert, s’est exprimé.

Le décès est annoncé sur la cagnotte :

« C’est avec une profonde et infinie tristesse que nous partageons la nouvelle du décès de notre fils, notre frère, notre ami… Philippe. (…) Philippe était un jeune homme de 23 ans. Il travaillait dans un centre socio-éducatif. Il était honnête, généreux, plein de vie, toujours souriant et prêt à aider les autres. (…) »
