La chute de Bachar el-Assad a marqué un tournant décisif en Syrie. Ce n’est pas une victoire pour la démocratie, mais une catastrophe sécuritaire pour le monde. Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), un groupe djihadiste autrefois affilié à Al-Qaïda, a pris le contrôle du pays, dirigé par Mohammed al-Joulani, ancien cadre d’Al-Qaïda et allié d’Al-Baghdadi. Ce groupe prétend avoir tourné la page du djihad global pour se concentrer sur le « nationalisme syrien », mais il s’agit d’un leurre. HTS conserve son agenda islamiste et étend son influence bien au-delà des frontières syriennes.

L’Europe est directement menacée. Les enquêtes sur l’assassinat de Samuel Paty ont révélé des liens directs entre HTS et les attentats djihadistes en France. Abdoullakh Anzorov, son assassin, était en contact avec Faruq Shami, un propagandiste de HTS basé à Idlib. Anzorov louait HTS comme « le meilleur groupe actuel à rejoindre » et s’inspirait de leurs actions en Syrie pour commettre son crime. Après l’attentat, il a envoyé des photos de sa victime à un contact d’HTS, qui l’a félicité pour son acte.

En moins d’une décennie, HTS s’est imposé comme une puissance géopolitique, tout en continuant à propager une idéologie meurtrière en Europe. Leur contrôle de territoires stratégiques en Syrie, notamment Idlib, leur confère des ressources colossales pour radicaliser, recruter et inspirer de nouveaux terroristes. Chaque jour où HTS reste au pouvoir renforce la menace djihadiste transnationale.

L’inaction des grandes puissances face à cette montée en puissance est un échec monumental. En tolérant la chute de Bachar el-Assad sans plan viable, l’Occident a permis à un groupe terroriste de prendre les rênes d’un État. La France subit les conséquences directes de cette erreur stratégique, alors que le djihadisme global reprend racine en Europe. La décapitation de Samuel Paty n’est que l’avant-goût d’une vague d’attentats à venir si HTS continue de consolider son pouvoir.
